Whistleblowers head home
The US legal system has netted three guilty pleas from crewmembers and a criminal fine of US$1m from the Greek owner of a bulker accused of committing and concealing water pollution offences during a port call in California in September.
The pleas ended an ordeal for 13 other crewmembers of the accused bulker, the 1983-built, 25,570 dwt, Maltese-flagged bulker Katerina, who were under detention in California as material witnesses since the incident. The crewmembers left for home last week.
