Deutsche Post is hoping for a rise in net profits to e2bn (US$2.6bn) for the current year, not least thanks to the use of new financial accounting standards.
This should follow e1.6bn for last year, which in itself was a 21.3% rise on the 2003 figure.
Chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel said the group is already moving about 5% of the global trade volume.
