Japan slips from oil lead

China was expected to take over from Japan as the largest Asian crude oil importer, as new refinery facilities open and to push refining capacity up to 1.2m barrels per day this year.

That has to come about, because China is obviously going to grow extensively in terms of its energy needs, whereas Japan is now a mature industrial society, an analyst from London broker Simpson Spence & Young (SSY) said.
