Bank denies pledge to pay Burmese crew

The law firm representing a Japanese bank that arrested a reefership in Auckland has denied giving maritime unions an assurance that it would pay outstanding wages owed to the vessel's 23 Burmese crew members.

New Zealand legal firm Buddle Findlay rejected claims by the International Transport Workers Federation that its client, Aozora Bank, had pledged to use sale proceeds from 7,156 dwt Annapurna to accomodate unpaid crew dues.
