Dredging starts at Newcastle port entrance

Newcastle Port Corporation has begun an intensive dredging program to remove about 90,000 cubic metres of sand and other material from the port's entrance.

Trailer suction hopper dredger De Bougainville was commissioned to carry out the work after an annual survey of the port entrance revealed build up on both sides of the main shipping channel, port corporation chief executive Gary Webb said.
