Sharp fall in volumes for PLA as recession bites

PORT of London Authority saw volumes fall 16% to 23m tonnes in the first half of this year, compared with the same period in 2008.
Unitised goods saw the largest decline, with a fall of almost 25% to 6.1m tonnes in the six months to June this year.
Although PLA does not own and operate terminals, it counts the volumes handled by its customer...
