Excise goods administration now with Tax office

Excise-equivalent goods (EEG) became an Australian Taxation Office responsibility from yesterday after the Federal Government transferred the administration process from the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service.

Assistant treasurer Nick Sherry said that the move, through the Better Regulation Ministerial Partnership initiative, would cut red-tape and reduce compliance costs for business by delivering a single administrator for businesses to deal with.
