Mermaid Marine has sealed a five-year offtake support vessel (OSV) deal with BHP Billiton Petroleum, the offshore services firm said yesterday.
Mermaid will use the 60-tonne bollard pull Mermaid Supporter to service the Pyrenees floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
"With BHP Billiton petroleum being a client on our Dampier Supply Base, we are able to integrate the marine supply chain and ensure security of supply to the FPSO," Mermaid managing director Geoff Weber said.
First oil from the 13-well Pyrenees project, 13 nautical miles off Exmouth, was expected early next year.
