Arrested Indian bulker awaits court direction
The Gem of Safaga, an Indian bulk carrier arrested in Port Kembla last month, will be the subject of a directions hearing in Sydney on Monday.
As Lloyd's List DCN reported online on November 9, the 65,163 dwt bulk carrier called at the port last month and was due to leave on November 3.
She was instead escorted to Sydney because of unavailability of berths at Port Kembla and has been the subject of nine court hearings so far, as a US$2.5m dispute between majority owner West Asia Maritime and the UK's Euroceanica has left her in limbo.
The dispute has been complicated by the fact the debts relate to the charter of other ships and that Gem of Safaga is 10% owned by Four M Maritime.
