Spill delays Pacific Jewel before maiden voyage
An investigation will be conducted into a minor oil spill around the newly-launched Pacific Jewel at Sydney's Circular Quay yesterday.

The 1950 passenger capacity, 70,310-tonne cruiseship was preparing to leave on her maiden voyage in Australia when the pilot noticed what Sydney Ports described as "an oily substance" between the vessel and her berth at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
"Sydney Ports' Marine Operations staff initiated emergency response procedures and protocols immediately to minimise the impact on surrounding waters," a port spokesman said.
The 1990-built vessel was refused clearance to depart until oil containment booms were in place and an initial investigation had been finished.
The oil was contained within the Circular Quay area and the vessel departed at 2025 hrs last night.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Governor-General Quentin Bryce had launched Pacific Jewel — formerly the Ocean Village Two — in front of other dignitaries in Sydney.
The ship's arrival in Melbourne is expected to be delayed.
