New advisory group aims at better deal for truckers

The Safe Rates Advisory Group's inaugural meeting in Melbourne today will kickstart a process aimed at producing safer and better conditions for road haulage subcontractors and their drivers.

Federal employment and workplace relations minister Julia Gillard said the group would provide industry advice to the government to develop a detailed policy options paper aimed at forming the basis of a wider consultation process by mid 2010.
