Foreign ships get year's grace on coastal crew conditions

The Federal Government's push to have international ships engaged in coastal trade subject to Australian workplace conditions appears to have hit an the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) speed hump.

While agreeing to the Seagoing Industry Award 2010 (SIA), the commission has separated permit ships from non-permit ships and delayed implementation of the Fair Work Act 2009 on international ships.
