ARTC frustrated at rail wire thefts

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has warned that those who steal its copper linewire face hefty fines, injury, imprisonment or even death.

It follows a series of incidents involving the theft of the copper running along tracks between Grafton and Casino in northern New South Wales.

When linewire is cut and removed, the signals revert to "failsafe", which is "stop", the ARTC explained.
