QR locks in $2bn Xstrata coal haulage contract

QR will haul coal from Xstrata's Newlands, Collinsville, Oaky Creek and Rolleston mines in Queensland as part of a $2bn contract announced yesterday.

The deal was used by Queensland premier Anna Bligh as another example of the merits of QR's privatisation.

Xstrata now has haulage contracts with three different operators in Queensland and New South Wales.

The coal producer signed a 10-year, $800m haulage deal...
