Idle tonnage is on rise as slack season nears

IDLE containership tonnage has started to increase again after remaining broadly stable for a few weeks, as lines prepare for the traditionally slack winter season.

The number of inactive containerships has jumped to 731 ships of 20.7m dwt this week, from 624 ships of 17.3m dwt just seven days earlier, according to latest Lloyd’s Marine Intelligence Unit data.
