Maersk calls for easing on Suez Canal tolls

Maersk Line is preparing to divert more Asia-Europe services around southern Africa unless Suez Canal transit tolls are reduced very soon, because of the large cost benefits.

Senior Maersk executives met Suez Canal Authority officials last week to press the case for lower fees, and say they had a sympathetic hearing.

But with no time to lose as market conditions deteriorate, the Danish line plans to reroute...
