MSC Lugano tugs `out of depth'

Two tugs used to keep a disabled boxship from running aground on Western Australia's south coast last year were ill-equipped for the task, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has found,

The 42,795 dwt MSC Lugano was en route to Fremantle in March 2008 when a fire disabled her engines.

She subsequently drifted towards the Archipelago of the Recherche and was about 50 miles south of port of Esperance.
