Local vehicle sales back on the road

Australia's new vehicle market showed signs it was on the road to economic recovery in December, with sales down only 11% year-on-year, compared with the 22% year-on-year slump in November.

The month's total of 76,510 vehicles took the total of what had begun as a year of record sales for the industry to 1,012,164 units, 37,818 units, or 3.6%, down on 2007.
