Newcastle coal record in December

The port of Newcastle set a monthly record last December, exporting 8.5m tonnes of coal.

The port also smashed a daily rail record on December 27, when 343,801 tonnes of coal went through the network.

The six month total for coal exported between July and December was more than 47m tonnes.
