A leading salvage expert has called for a fundamental restructuring of the sector, urging that casualties at sea must not be handled on a competitive basis.
Klaas Reinigert, formerly of Smit Tak and ex-president of the International Salvage Union, told Lloyd's List : When your house is on fire in Liverpool, you do not start negotiations with a fire brigade in Newcastle.
