The incoming Fremantle Ports chief executive, Chris Leatt-Hayter, said his first order of business would ensure customers of the port were prepared for the obstacles of the future economy.
Apart from projects such as the inner harbour deepening, Mr Leatt-Hayter said engaging with the shipping community would ensure businesses survived and the port successfully navigated the global economic storm.
