Liner industry "disbelief" at Bligh cost demands

Australia's international competitiveness would be hit were Swire to agree to Queensland premier Anna Bligh's demand that it cover the entire cost of the March 13 Pacific Adventurer oil spill, Shipping Australia chief Llew Russell said yesterday.

Ms Bligh on Sunday accused Swire of reneging on an agreement to cover the estimated $34m cost of the spill along the state's coast.

Her stance was backed by federal infrastructure minister Anthony Albanese.
