New compliance system for Customs process
The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service's resource-intensive Benchmark Audit program has been replaced by its new Compliance Monitoring program.
No changes to import declarations
The new program would use pre-clearance intervention or red-line processing and cover several areas including imports and exports, Customs and Border Protection said.
The imports phase of the new program, which started on July 1, will apply to import declarations and will be conducted in Brisbane.
Customs and Border Protection said the program would use statistical valid samples to indicate overall levels of compliance.
In turn, this data would help industry players improve on compliance measures.
The process would not require examination of goods as the procedure would involve checks from the documents to the declaration.
From an industry perspective, there will be no change to the normal process for lodging import declaration documents which require documents to be submitted, Customs and Border Protection said.
