Carrier repels pirate attack in Gulf of Aden

A Liberia-flagged very large crude carrier (VLCC) this morning fought off an attack by pirates in the Gulf of Aden, according to a statement from the Maritime Security Centre, Horn of Africa.

While the 265,000 dwt vessel has not officially been named, security sources believe that the tanker is the 1987-built A Elephant, operated by TMT.
