Fremantle Port Authority is assisting an investigation into the source of oil found washed up on beaches near Perth.
Oil globules were found last week on several beaches stretching along a 40 km stretch of coastline from Fremantle to Mullaloo.
The WA Department of Transport is testing samples of the oil in an effort to determine its type, which would help identify its source.
The oil could be naturally-occurring or may have come from a passing ship.
News.com.au reports that this is the second incident of its type in the last month, following a separate clean-up near Broome.
