Crane maker Cargotec drops into the red

A deferral in container terminal projects, port infrastructure investment and shipbuilding hit the 2009 half-year results of Cargotec, the Helsinki-based specialist crane maker and onboard equipment manufacturer.

Cargotec's Kalmar division supplied this straddle to Patrick's terminal at Brisbane

Sales fell 17% to €1.4bn (US$1.9bn) for the six months to June.

This resulted in an operating loss of €3.9m, reversing a €107.3m operating profit in half year 2008 and included €21.9m of restructuring costs.
