Shipping Australia says that the controversial vessel arrival system being introduced at the port of Newcastle is unsustainable as far as chartering arrangements are concerned.

The system, which places ships in the coal queue long before they arrive at anchorage, is designed to discourage the practice of fast-steaming to the port to get the earliest possible loading day.
