While total full containerised imports at Port Botany dipped by 1.3% in 2008/09, the port still managed to set a new container trade record of 1.78m teu.

A rise in cereal and timber exports helped lift full container exports at the port by almost 15% in the last financial year, Sydney Ports Corporation results show.
Favourable weather in the north-west and central-west regions of New South Wales boosted cereal exports 55% from last year with the bulk of the commodity going to Indonesia.
Timber exports rose 71% from a year ago, with China taking most of the shipments, while machinery and transport equipment trade climbed 24%.
China, New Zealand, Japan and the US continued to be the main markets for the Australian products, the port corporation said.
Total trade, which includes containerised and non-containerised items, fell 4.7% from a year ago to 27.8m tonnes as motor vehicle trade at Glebe Island ceased and the port saw a drop in crude oil imports.
Sydney Ports chief executive Grant Gilfillan said the global economic downturn would continue to pose a challenge in the next 12 months.
