Airfreight exports steady, imports dive again

Australia's airfreight export volumes held ground in May compared with the same month in 2008, Bureau of Infrastructure and Regional Economics figures show.

Grounded: Import freight declines 13.5% compared with May 2008

Exports were steady at 24,531 tonnes but imports plunged 21.8% to 31,179 tonnes.

Overall, international airfreight trade dropped to 55,710 tonnes, down 13.5% compared with May 2008, when 64,419 tonnes was carried by air.
