Sea SA bucks the trend with revenue increase

by Rob McKay last modified Jul 30, 2009 12:28 PM

Sea SA has defied the economic downturn posting an 11% rise in revenue, the Spencer Gulf ro-ro company has revealed.

Sea SA carried 27,774 cars, 77,128 passengers, 3757 trailers, 137 buses and 1138 motorbikes, in the year to June 30, recording rises of 13%, 18% and 38% for trailers, buses and motorbikes respectively.

Freight traffic was particularly pleasing for the company, with a 31% increase in trucks from 535 to 780.

“While on volume these figures are actually slightly down when compared with volumes carried in 2007/08, we have maintained our strength by adapting to current market conditions,” managing director Stephanie Dawson said.

“We have held 2007/08 prices, introduced popular off-season discounts and streamlined the number of daily services we offer to ensure the service remains cost-efficient, achieves economies of scale and ultimately stays viable."

Sea SA provided an average of 24 crossings a week, down from 36 a week last financial year, due to the downturn.
