Pirates step up Singapore Strait attacks

There was a slight increase in significant attacks by pirates against shipping in Asia in the first half of this year, according to a Singapore-based anti-piracy centre.

In its half-year report, the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships said there were 38 successful pirate attacks in Asian waters, two more than the same period last year.
