Swire Oilfield Services acquires Weir OCI

by Rob McKay last modified Jul 31, 2009 01:33 PM

Swire Oilfield Services (SOS) has continued its acquisitive strategy in Australia announcing yesterday the purchase of Perth firm Weir OCI for an undisclosed sum.

SOS, which supplies offshore energy cargo carrying units, said the deal had formed the largest regional supplier of offshore cargo carrying units (CCU) in Australasia with customers which included Woodside Energy and Toll Logistics.

It brought to $30m the amount invested in the region in 12 months after last August's Maritime Products & Services purchase.

The combined entities now control more than 1800 units.

"Despite the tough trading conditions, we believe the Australian and Asian market has strong long-term potential and we are determined to continue to invest to grow our business," SOS general manager Rupert Bray said.

"Combined with our recent entry into the Indian and Brazilian markets, this acquisition confirms Swire Oilfield Services as the global market leader in the offshore cargo carrying sector."

The company, with bases in Perth, Dampier, Darwin and Sale, will also provide helifuel, filtration and pumping services, chemical handling and specialist support services.
