Lashings of reform
LLOYD’S Register (LR) is preparing to introduce new provisional rules on ergonomic container lashing aimed at protecting stevedores and ships’ crews from the hazards of securing containers on deck.
The rules, to be introduced in coming months, have been drawn up in direct response to the fact that there are too many accidents suffered by stevedores involved in container lashing operations, LR containerships manager David Tozer said.
