Shanghai aims to halt slide with transhipment boost

SHANGHAI International Port Group (SIPG) says it will struggle to meet its 2009 throughput target of 29m teu due to the global shipping downturn.

In an effort to boost volumes, the port operator is striving to grow its transhipment business.
“International transhipment currently constitutes about 5% of the group’s overall throughput. The segment still has plenty of room for exploration,” SIPG board secretary...
