Production to increase 25% by 2011

MORE than 430m tonnes of new iron ore production capacity is predicted to come on stream between 2009 and 2011, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad).

In Unctad’s report, ‘The Iron Ore Market 2008/2010’, the organisation said the majority of the projects most likely to be realised are in Australia.
Norwegian shipbroker Lorentzen & Stemoco said this new capacity would be equivalent to about 25%...
