China's ore appetite boosts Port Hedland exports

Total exports at Port Hedland, which is used by miners BHP Billiton and Fortescue Metals, jumped 14% in May from the previous month, thanks to a healthy increase in iron ore shipments to China.

Total exports rose to 13.4m tonnes in May from 11.7m tonnes in April, Port Hedland Port Authority figures showed.

The port shipped 13.1m tonnes of iron ore in the month, a 16% jump from April's 11.3m tonnes.
