Transport magnate Lindsay Fox has been honoured for his contribution to Australia's transport and logistics supply chain industry.

The founder of logistics operator Linfox, Mr Fox was the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Supply Chain Management award at the Smart Awards in Sydney last week.

"Lindsay Fox has revolutionised the supply chain industry in Australia and the region during his 50 years in the business," Smart Awards chairman Len Harper said.

Mr Fox started Linfox in 1956 with one truck and the company has since grown to become one of the country's biggest transport and warehousing businesses with operations in 11 countries.

Mr Fox received a Centenary Medal in 2001 and advancement to a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2008.

Other winners at this year's Smart Awards were:

- The Queensland Department of Main Roads (manufacturing supply chains award)

- Coca-Cola Amatil (Supply chain management and distribution award)

- Linfox Logistics (transport and logistics award) 

- Santos (procurement award)

- Hunter Valley Coal Chain Logistics Team (supply chain innovation in New South Wales award).
