Setting a benchmark: Port Botany

Sweeping changes proposed by Sydney Ports Corporation will see additional fees charged for trucks accessing the port during peak times.

It is proposed that road carriers be charged $160 each time one of their trucks enters the port between 5am and 1pm on weekdays.

Financial penalties and incentives have been proposed for other times and days.

The changes also stipulate specific service times for the stevedores.

Two trials this year saw some of the proposed changes tested, including giving stevedores 60 minutes to complete a vehicle booking slot.

Sydney Ports has clarified that the specific benchmarks, including allowing 15 minutes for each additional box, are still to be set and has proposed that the additional time be given on a per-container basis, not per teu as previously reported.
