Boost for Patrick's Brisbane operation

The opening marked the completion of a $125m expansion of the world’s only fully automated marine container terminal, Asciano said.

The 39 ha terminal has a quay length of 900 metres, employs 200 people and can handle almost 800,000 teu a year.

“The terminal has been built to last and has been carefully planned to accommodate expansion as the port of Brisbane grows," Mr Rowsthorn said.

"We believe it demonstrates – to borrow a phrase from our employees – that we are 'here to stay'.

“The Brisbane AutoStrad Terminal is far removed from most people’s perceptions of the traditional waterfront.

"It is a sophisticated, safe and highly efficient environment exhibiting revolutionary technology and a highly skilled workforce.

"That we can open these iconic facilities, in a terminal which exhibits world leading stevedoring technology, shows how far Patrick has come in a short period of time.”

Mr Rowsthorn thanked those involved in the project including Patrick’s partner, Kalmar, construction contractors Grindleys and Civdec, and architecture firm Fiala Ooi Architects, which delivered "this magnificent terminal and its four and a half green star rated buildings".
