Murdered seafarer found after hijacked ship released

Somali pirates shot dead a Ukrainian seafarer on board a general cargoship operating from the Netherlands, the country’s defence ministry has confirmed.

The body was discovered after the ship was released on Monday night, apparently following payment of a ransom.

A second Ukrainian seafarer was reportedly suffering from gunshot wounds but is said to be in a stable condition.
