Navigation Act set for overhaul
THE FEDERAL Government will re-write Australia’s maritime law, the Navigation Act 1912, infrastructure and transport minister Anthony Albanese said last week. The move would ensure the act “better supports the needs of the industry”, he said.
“It is no longer tenable to continue with the previous approach of patching-up our maritime laws in an ad hoc fashion,” the minister said, adding that many of the act’s provisions were outdated.
