Downturn takes big toll on Hong Kong throughput
HONG Kong recorded double-digit falls in container and cargo throughput in the first three months of this year as the global slump took its toll on China’s export led economy.
Census and Statistics Department figures show box volumes dropped 20% year on year to 4.6m teu in the first quarter, while cargo throughput fell 17% to 52.2m tonnes in the same period.
