OPTIMISM generated by recent positive signals from the dry bulk market should be contained because the medium-term demand and supply outlook is fundamentally weak, according to a report from the consultant Maritime Strategies Inter-national (MSI).

While support is expected from government infrastructural investments, this is likely to be outweighed by falling requirements for residential construction projects, cars and consumer appliances across the world, MSI said.

This will compound weakening prospects for steel production...
