Melbourne flys higher

As befits a former parliamentary transport secretary, new Victorian industry and trade minister Martin Pakula has used only his second ministerial announcement to say Melbourne Airport had pipped its Sydney counterpart as Australia's top airfreight export hub.

Even as Asciano showed last week that Patrick's container throughput in Melbourne was falling as its Sydney operation rose, Mr Pakula and Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff said international air freight exports from Melbourne were up 23% last December...
