Pollution from new ships

Environmental pollution caused by ships will rise in the next five years, according to a study by German HypoVereinsbank.

If the 8,887 ships on order all are delivered as planned in 2012-2013, the worldwide fleet of 53,440 ships will emit over 1.6bn tonnes of carbon dioxide, the report has concluded.
