Training overhaul on track
“Significant progress” has been made towards updating the convention covering standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers, according to International Maritime Organization (IMO) secretary-general Efthimios Mitropoulos.
Intensive discussions took place over five days at the STW sub-committee last month, although country delegations have called for an additional intercessional working group to thrash out remaining issues ahead of its next meeting in January 2010.
