Asian shipowners are worried that piracy could surge around the world as the economic downturn deepens.
Globally, the number of pirate attacks rose 11.4% to 293 last year, according to International Maritime Bureau (IMB) figures, pushed up by the wave of hijackings in the Gulf of Aden by Somali pirates.
