Big scrap breaks out in Bangladesh ruling

The bombshell flung by the Bangladesh High Court last week, that all shipbreaking yards in the country without environmental clearance would have to close down within a fortnight, has caused chaos in the ship demolition sector.

No such clearances have been required until now and none of the 36 beachfront yards in Chittagong are in possession of them.

Local media reports suggest Bangladeshi scrappers have been given a three-week reprieve from the court decision.
