The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) has raised concerns about the alleged underpayments to the crew of Grand Esmeralda.

The 24 Filipinos said they had not been paid since March.

The crew has also expressed concern about the safety of the 60,000 dwt vessel.

The vessel - owned and operated by Newfront Shipping - is chartered to ship Mt Gibson iron ore to China.

The ITF said there had been previous disputes related to the same vessel in Canada.
