Vessel fire delays Van Gogh production

by Sineva Toevai last modified May 22, 2009 01:54 PM

Damage to the vessel Ningaloo Vision last month is likely to delay initial production of oil at Apache Corp's Van Gogh oil field.

Apache chief executive Steve Farris said the first oil production at the oil field off Western Australia may not occur before 2010 because of fire damage to the floating production, offloading and storage vessel, Lloyd's MIU reports.

Oil production at Van Gogh off WA was due to commence by the end of the year but this was now likely to be delayed until the first quarter of 2010, Mr Farris said at the company's annual meeting last week.

A fire at a shipyard in Singapore last month damaged Ningaloo Vision's instrument rooms which house panels for process control, power and emergency systems and well control.

Apache plans to lease the Prosafe Production-owned vessel.
